Joint Military Exercise: India and Seychelles Set for 10-Day Collaboration

The Indian Army is set to embark on a significant 10-day war game alongside Seychelles troops at a military base in the island nation. This collaborative effort aims to strengthen their partnership in response to mutual concerns regarding China's expanding influence in the Indian Ocean.

During this joint endeavor, both forces will engage in comprehensive training, strategic planning, and the execution of various tactical drills. The Indian Army, highlighting the strategic importance of Seychelles' location comprising approximately 115 islands in the Indian Ocean, has prioritized enhancing defense collaboration with the nation.

Departing for Seychelles on Sunday, an Indian Army contingent of 45 personnel will participate in the exercise dubbed 'Lamitiye,' joined by an equal number of troops from the Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF).

In a statement, the Army emphasized that the exercise aims to cultivate mutual understanding and strengthen unity between the participating troops. It is envisioned to foster a collaborative partnership, facilitating the exchange of best practices between the two sides.

Furthermore, the exercise seeks to bolster interoperability in sub-conventional operations within semi-urban environments, aligning with Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter on peacekeeping operations.

"The exercise will enhance cooperation and interoperability between both sides during peacekeeping operations," stated the Army.

Emphasizing the significance of this collaborative effort, the Army underscored its role in building and promoting bilateral military relations, while facilitating the exchange of skills, experiences, and best practices between the participating armies.

Throughout the 10-day duration, the exercise will encompass a range of activities, including field training exercises, combat discussions, lectures, demonstrations, and a two-day validation exercise. These activities will focus on neutralizing potential threats in semi-urban environments, while also showcasing the utilization of advanced equipment and technology.
