India's Urgent Appeals to Russia: MEA Addresses Safety Concerns of Indian Support Staff

During a weekly media briefing, Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, underscored the relentless efforts being made to secure the swift return of Indian personnel stranded in Russia. Highlighting the concerning situation, Jaiswal mentioned that approximately 20 Indian individuals have sought assistance from the Indian embassy in Moscow.

India reiterated its strong stance on the safety of its citizens serving as support staff within Russian military units, emphasizing the urgency for their prompt discharge following recent fatalities. With the tragic loss of two Indian nationals in similar roles, Indian authorities have urged their nationals to prioritize their safety and refrain from undertaking such precarious positions.

Efforts to repatriate the deceased Indians are also underway, with necessary paperwork completed for their mortal remains. Jaiswal assured that arrangements have been made through a funeral agency and communication is ongoing with the bereaved families. It is expected that the mortal remains will be repatriated to India by the end of the week.

The tragic demise of Mohammed Asfan, hailing from Hyderabad, who was deceived into joining the conflict in Ukraine, was confirmed by the Indian Embassy in Moscow. Asfan's death follows closely after the loss of Hemal Ashwinbhai Mangukiya, a 23-year-old from Gujarat, who perished in a Ukrainian airstrike while serving as a security aide in the Donetsk region.

Addressing inquiries regarding the Ukraine conflict, Jaiswal reiterated India's unwavering stance, advocating for a peaceful resolution through dialogue and diplomatic channels. He emphasized India's commitment to exploring all possible avenues to facilitate a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
