In the wake of the recent terror attack at Pahalgam in India, Pakistan has ratcheted up tensions by resuming unprovoked ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC). Pakistani military pickets have fired with small arms on Indian posts during the past two days. The Indian Army has retaliated with a befitting and strong response, official sources said.

Fortunately, no Indian casualties have been reported in these LoC skirmishes. Another Pakistani attempt at violating the LoC was reported on Friday when the enemy troops once again began firing across the LoC. The swift and decisive response of the Indian Army was proof of its readiness and determination to safeguard the nation's security.

They followed the ghastly April 22 terror attack at Pahalgam, where masked militants attacked a group of tourists. In the ghastly targeted killing, the militants revealed their identities by announcing the names of their victims and religion before they opened fire and killed them. The attack resulted in 26 deaths, and the massacre prompted a huge anti-terror operation in the entire state of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).

Similarly, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi visited J&K on Friday to review the security scenario. On his visit, General Dwivedi had crucial meetings with senior military commanders and security officials. He also met J&K Lieutenant Governor and reviewed the security deployment in the state in consultation with the Director General of Police.

The COAS also called on Victor Force headquarters and 15 Corps and was briefed in detail about the ongoing operations. The visit is a testament to India's overall policy of dismantling the terror support infrastructure and mechanism.

In a significant move after the Pahalgam attack, India opted to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty. The move on India's release of water to Pakistan is reported to put additional pressure on Islamabad, and the treaty will remain suspended until Pakistan puts in place tough measures to eliminate terrorism.
