In a concerted effort to address illegal immigration, Delhi Police on Monday reported detaining and deporting 29 foreign nationals found residing in the capital without valid visas.
The deported included 18 people from Bangladesh, as well as citizens of various African countries, including Nigeria, Liberia, Benin, Ivory Coast, and Tanzania.
The operation that lasted for a month, conducted in June, was led by Special Staff along with several police stations falling under the Dwarka District authorities.
Authorities explained that the arrests were carried out by several units: 11 were taken into custody by Special Staff, seven by Dabri Police Station, six by the Anti-Narcotics Cell, three by Mohan Garden Police Station, and one each by Uttam Nagar, Dwarka, and the AATS.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Ankit Singh discussed the scenario, referencing how illegal residents strain local systems. "Illegally residing foreigners dining on the land's resources are struggling with pressure in Dwarka district," he said.
Police units had been going around gathering intelligence on overseas aliens believed to be residing illegally in the region. After exhaustive checks of their documents, the individuals were found to have overstayed their visas or entered the country without proper authorization, wherefore legal action was initiated against them.
Amongst the deported individuals were Iddi Rashid (Tanzania), Daniel Jonas (Benin), Daniel Toe Tuweh and Martnis Sibiely (Liberia), Basil Uwaebuka Chigbogh, Chinomso Uzorh, and Basol Onyekachi Okwuenu (Nigeria), as well as Ali Bamba, Anicet Nda, Chiaka Coulibuli, and Assi Eric (Ivory Coast).
The Bangladesh nationals consisted of Md. Safikul Islam, Mosami, Md. Islam, Md. Attikul, Md. Bilal, Alpana, Asiya, Lalita Barman, Bittu Barman, Lalit Barman, Santuna Barman, and seven kids between the ages of 2.5 years and 15 years.
"They were found to be overstaying in India with no valid visa. They were brought before the FRRO (Foreigners Regional Registration Office), which directed them to be deported. In accordance, they were taken to the Detention Centre," the police told a press release.
This operation is part of a sustained effort by the Delhi Police to identify and deport foreign nationals living illegally in the city. Officials confirmed that such operations would continue to safeguard national security and ensure optimal use of public resources.
