India Commissions Second Nuclear-Powered Missile Submarine with Rajnath Singh in Attendance

Sources say Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is set to commission India's nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine, the second in this category, this Thursday.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is likely to attend the function, but officials remained tight-lipped about the other details.

Details of India's SSBN program are highly classified. Its indigenous nuclear-powered submarine, INS Arihant, was launched in July 2009 and entered service in 2016. In October 2022, INS Arihant conducted an SLBM test in the Bay of Bengal with high precision, according to the defence ministry.

Of all of its nuclear deterrent strategies, the SSBN programme is surely one of the most important legs.
