For the first time since the ceasefire pact, the Indian and Pakistani chiefs of military operations had a hotline conversation on Monday at 5 p.m. to deliberate on plans for bringing peace along the border, an official has confirmed.
Pakistan has made its intentions known to refrain from further escalation of the conflict and has been willing to respect the ceasefire pact, according to official sources.
The dialogue between the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) was mostly centered on the cessation of military operations and gunfire, as per the understanding achieved after India's anti-terror Operation Sindoor was suspended on May 10 at Pakistan's request.
India's DGMO, Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, engaged in the dialogue, which was attended by Pakistan's DGMO, Major General Kashif Abdullah.
The exchange also touched upon the need to exercise restraint, maintain the ceasefire, and examine the existing border scenario. Importantly, the 2021 ceasefire agreement signed by the DGMOs of both nations remains an important factor in ensuring peace on the Line of Control (LoC).
There was some speculation previously about the timing of the hotline call, as it was originally supposed to occur at noon on Monday, after the ceasefire agreement on May 10.
Meanwhile, the senior military personnel briefed on a comprehensive account of India's defense approach and preparedness during and post Operation Sindoor. On a high-level briefing, Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, Air Marshal A.K. Bharti, and Vice Admiral A.N. Pramod explicated the meticulous coordination among the Indian Army, the Air Force, and Navy and highlighted the defensive posture, being cautious but unbreachable.
Lt Gen Ghai made it clear that India's military operations stayed within its own boundaries, affirming, "All defensive measures were executed from within Indian territory," effectively refuting any reports of escalation on the Line of Control (LoC) or International Border (IB).
