Delhi Shivers at Minimum Temperature of 6.8°C, Air Quality Deteriorates to 'Severe'

On Monday, the national capital experienced a minimum temperature of 6.8 degrees Celsius, which is two notches below the seasonal average, as reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The IMD's forecast for the day indicated a maximum temperature around 21 degrees with a minimum of approximately 7 degrees. The weather conditions are expected to include a partly cloudy sky and shallow fog.

In terms of visibility, readings recorded at 5:30 am showed varying levels across different areas: Palam and Safdarjung in Delhi had readings of 200 and 500, respectively. In Punjab, Patiala and Amritsar recorded readings of 200 and 500. Ganganagar and Jaipur in Rajasthan, as well as Bareilly, Bahraich, and Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, each reported visibility levels of 500.

The air quality in the national capital remained in the 'very poor' category at several stations, with some areas registering in the 'severe' category as well. In the Anand Vihar area, PM2.5 levels were recorded in the 'severe' category, reaching 276 for PM10 at 9 a.m., according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). The Air Quality Index (AQI) categorizes pollution levels, and readings between 401 and 500 are considered 'severe.'

At the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport (T3), PM2.5 levels were measured at 306, with PM10 at 184. Dwarka Sector 8 witnessed PM2.5 levels at 339, and PM10 was recorded at 246, both falling under the 'very poor' and 'poor' categories.
