Delhi Shivers with Minimum Temperature at 6 Degrees, Air Quality Index (AQI) Hits 'Severe' Levels

Residents of Delhi woke up to a shallow fog and a chilly morning on Sunday, with the minimum temperature settling at 6 degrees Celsius, three notches below the seasonal average, as reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The IMD's forecast indicated that the maximum temperature for the day is expected to hover around 24 degrees Celsius, with a "partly cloudy sky."

Due to the fog, visibility at Palam was reduced to 1200 meters, and at Safdarjung, it dropped to 700 meters at 7:30 a.m. Additionally, the air quality in several areas of the city remained in the 'severe levels.' In the Anand Vihar area, the Particulate Matter (PM) 2.5 levels recorded at 9 a.m. were in the 'severe' category at 491, PM10 reached 500, while Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) was at 245, categorized as 'poor,' according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

The Air Quality Index (AQI) categorizes levels between zero and 50 as 'good,' 51 and 100 as 'satisfactory,' 101 and 200 as 'moderate,' 201 and 300 as 'poor,' 301 and 400 as 'very poor,' and 401 and 500 as 'severe.'

At the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) Airport T3, PM10 levels were at 449 in the 'severe' category, PM 2.5 was at 377 falling under the 'very poor' category, while Carbon Monoxide (CO) was at 118, categorized as 'moderate.'
