Director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri has legally changed the title of his forthcoming film. Picking up from where The Delhi Files left off, the project is henceforth to be referred to as The Bengal Files.
The decision was made public on June 10, 2025, and the teaser of the film is set to release on June 12.
Produced by Tej Narayan Agarwal and I Am Buddha Productions, the film is all set for release on September 5, 2025.
The title shift marks a radical change in the direction of themes in the movie. While plot details are still to be revealed, the tagline "Right to Life" provides a powerful indication that the story might revolve around major socio-political or historic events based on Bengal's history. Following Agnihotri’s earlier films—particularly The Kashmir Files—this new installment is expected to shine a spotlight on stories that have often remained underexplored or sparked public debate, possibly touching upon periods from British colonial rule or more recent political developments.
Agnihotri, who has a reputation for exploring knotty and incendiary subjects, repeats his association with producer Abhishek Agarwal and National Award-winning actress and co-producer Pallavi Joshi. The movie seems to form a trilogy of explorations into India's intricate and multi-faceted historical moments.
The new release date—early September rather than the earlier rumored August 15—seems to be a strategic decision. By not opening on the busy Independence Day weekend, the movie hopes to stand out and demand attention without being in competition with other patriotic tales.
As the film's teaser approaches, public interest is growing. Agnihotri’s previous work has drawn both acclaim for its emotional resonance and criticism for its ideological stance. With The Bengal Files, the filmmaker faces the challenge of maintaining narrative intensity while navigating sensitive historical material. The upcoming teaser is expected to offer the first look into what promises to be another provocative and conversation-starting film in Agnihotri’s body of work.
