Actress Medha Shankr Opens Up About Financial Struggles: Had Only Rs 257 in Account

Actress Medha Shankr, acclaimed for her performance in '12th Fail', candidly revealed that she faced financial hardship at one point, with just Rs 257 in her account.

Despite the challenges, Shankr, honored with IMDb's 'Breakout Star' STAR meter Award, reflected on her journey. Recounting her audition for '12th Fail' in 2022, she expressed a strong sense of destiny surrounding the role.

Reflecting on the difficult period, Shankr shared, "It was 2020, a challenging year globally. Personally, it was tough as I was financially struggling; I had only 257 rupees in my account."

Driven by her passion for acting, Shankr emphasized that her love for the craft, not fame or glamour, fueled her ambition. "Acting is my calling," she affirmed.

Detailing her path to securing the role in '12th Fail', Shankr recalled a rigorous process that culminated in her selection. "It took me some time to land '12th Fail'. Starting my acting journey in Bombay in 2018, I auditioned for the film in 2022. During the screen test with Vidhu Vinod Chopra sir and the team, I felt a strong connection to the role. When I received the confirmation call from Vidhu sir, it was an emotional moment," she shared.

Upon securing the role, Shankr celebrated with her family, sharing tears of joy with her father and brother in Bangalore.

Directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, '12th Fail' stars Vikrant Massey alongside Shankr, along with Joshi Anantvijay, Anshuman Pushkar, Geeta Agrawal Sharma, and Priyanshu Chatterjee. Inspired by the real-life story of IPS Officer Manoj Kumar Sharma and IRS Officer Shraddha Joshi, the film resonated strongly with audiences upon its release in 2023.
