Pakistan seeks answer from Indian government on not allowing Indian students to study in Pakistan

“It is our responsibility to ensure that students are sufficiently aware while making these choices. As regulators, we are concerned about our students and want to ensure they don’t face any difficulties,” he said, citing the examples of Indian students who were pursuing medicine in countries such as Ukraine and China, said UGC chairperson Prof M Jagadesh Kumar.

On Friday, April 22 UGC and AICTE issued a joint notice which stated that Indian students enrolling themselves for higher studies in Pakistan's educational institutes will not be eligible to pursue further studies or get a job in India. Both have asked Indian students to not choose Pakistan educational institutes.

After the notice by UGC and AICTE, Pakistan on Monday asked India to make clear its stand on the notice issues for advising their students not to pursue studies in their country.

“We have sought clarification from the Indian government with reference to the said Public Notice. Pakistan reserves the right to take appropriate measures in response to this openly discriminatory and inexplicable action by India,” the Pakistan ministry of foreign affairs, based in Islamabad, said in a statement.

The notice, however, makes an exception for Pakistani migrants who have been granted Indian citizenship.

According to AICTE Chairman Anil Sahasrabudhe, Indian students need to be advised to which institutions and countries they should travel for education so that they don't land up with a degree without parity with Indian regulations.

Earlier, the UGC had issued an advisory in 2019 against studying in institutes in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
