Progress of bullet train project satisfactory: Ashwini Vaishnaw

The 508-km-long project between Mumbai and Ahmedabad has seen the construction of viaducts along a length of 272 km.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw expressed satisfaction with the progress of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project after reviewing the work on Thursday. While he refrained from providing a specific deadline for the project's completion, the minister emphasized the steady advancement of the work.

The 508-km-long project between Mumbai and Ahmedabad has seen the construction of viaducts along a length of 272 km. Notably, bridges have been erected over five out of eight rivers on the route. Vaishnaw highlighted that the completion deadline for the 50-km-long section between Surat and Billimora is set for 2026, and the work is proceeding as per the schedule.

The bullet train corridor is designed to integrate major economic centers, including Mumbai, Thane, Vapi, Surat, Vadodara, Anand, and Ahmedabad, contributing to the country's economic growth. Vaishnaw noted significant progress at many stations along the route.

He also mentioned a unique aspect of the project, stating that the bullet train will pass through a sea tunnel to reach Mumbai from Thane, and work on the sea tunnel has commenced.

Announced in 2017, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed train corridor is India's first, with bullet trains expected to operate at a speed of 320 kmph. Initially set for completion by 2022, the project's deadline has been extended, with ongoing progress suggesting a positive outlook for this ambitious transportation initiative.
