Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project Milestone, 100km of Viaducts, 250km of Pier Work Completed

Providing a detailed timeline, the NHSRCL disclosed that the first girder was launched on November 25, 2021, followed by the completion of the initial kilometer of viaduct by June 30, 2022, achieved within a span of six months.

The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) announced significant progress on the mega Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor project, revealing that 100 kilometers of viaducts have been prepared out of the total 508 kilometers planned. Additionally, 250 kilometers of pier work has reached completion.

Subsequently, 50 kilometers of viaduct were finished by April 22, 2023, in a duration of ten months. Impressively, the next 100 kilometers were completed in the subsequent six months.

The milestone of constructing 100 kilometers of viaducts was accomplished through the deployment of cutting-edge techniques, including launching 40-meter-long full-span box girders and segmental girders.

NHSRCL highlighted the use of the full-span launching technique (FSLM) as a pivotal method, enabling the rapid launch of 40-meter-long box girders through state-of-the-art equipment. This approach, ten times faster than the conventional Span by Span launching used in metro viaducts, forms an integral part of India's inaugural Bullet train project.

Moreover, the corporation shared that apart from the viaducts, 250 kilometers of pier work, critical for the project's foundation, has also been accomplished. Notably, the viaducts encompass bridges over six rivers, namely Par, Purna, Mindhola, Ambika, Auranga, and Venganiya, spread across Valsad and Navsari districts in Gujarat.

Excitingly, the installation of noise barriers has commenced along the constructed viaducts to enhance the project's environmental considerations.

Innovations continue as the NHSRCL commenced the laying of the first Reinforced Concrete (RC) track bed for the MAHSR corridor track system, adopting the Japanese Shinkansen-inspired J-slab ballastless track system for the first time in India, initiated in Surat, Gujarat.

Further updates on the project showcased the completion of the first mountain tunnel measuring 350 meters in Valsad district, Gujarat, and the erection of the inaugural steel bridge spanning 70 meters in Surat. This steel bridge is among the planned 28 such structures forming an integral part of the MAHSR corridor.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Project, inaugurated in September 2017 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, remains on track for completion by 2026.
