Elon Musk becomes world's richest man yet again after his net worth crosses $200 billion mark

SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk became the richest person in the world after crossing the $200 billion mark for the first time ever due to a surge in Tesla stocks on Monday.

Meanwhile, Jeff Bezos’ net worth fell down $1 billion to $197.7 billion on the same day due to a 0.6 decline in Amazon stock.

However, this is not the first time Musk has become the world’s richest person. He held the position for several days back in January this year because he received additional stock option grants that have increased his stake in Tesla and its stock was at the peak. He has about 73.5 million Tesla options worth about $53 billion and Musk owns more than one-fifth of the company.

Shares of Tesla skyrocketed to more than 720% in 2020 alone, giving a major boost to Elon Musk’s net worth who is heavily tied up to Tesla’s ownership. Musk’s added a whopping $125 billion into his net worth in 2020 alone, which got him in the race at the top.

His space exploration company SpaceX is valued at $74 billion dollars, as initial round fundings in February show.

Both Musk and Bezos now are now competing in the race of space exploration, as SpaceX recently launched civilians into space, which was both historic and one of a kind as of yet. Last month, tensions spilt over into a lawsuit by Blue Origin against the federal government to dispute a $2.9 billion NASA contract that was awarded to SpaceX.
