This year, the total number of holidays go over the top as a long list of national holidays awaits the public. However, not all states will get the entire 21 days bank holidays as some of these festivals and holiday dates are unique to certain states all over the country.

Both public and private sector banks will be closed for a total of 21 days in October due to the long list of festivals and national holidays. The RBI has issued guidelines for all the holidays, including some of the regional holidays that fall in October. The bank holidays are divided into three categories, Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act, Real-Time Gross Settlement Holiday, and Banks Closing on Accounts. The long list of holidays starts from Half Yearly Closing of Bank Accounts which is particular for Gangtok in Sikkim meanwhile the national holiday for the banks start from October 2nd, which is the Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti. Excluding the 2nd and 4th Saturdays and Sundays, there are several festivals that fall in between the month. October is usually a holiday hefty month with several festivals like Dussehra and at times Diwali falling in between the month, in addition to the Gandhi Jayanti.
