In spite of recent news emphasizing the sale of its 51% stake in a production plant to alliance member Renault, Nissan clarified that it has no plans of backing out from India.

Far from it, however, the company is scaling up its domestic operations with a healthy emphasis on growing its product range and manufacturing presence.

Addressing a recent press conference, Nissan Motor India Managing Director Saurabh Vatsa denied any rumors of the company plotting to exit or scale down operations here.

"Nissan is not leaving anywhere. We are here to stay in India," Vatsa asserted strongly. He brushed aside the exit rumors, repeating the brand's consistent trajectory in the domestic market.

"There are no changes in domestic strategies and there are no plans for job cuts," he said, indicating a clear desire to remain on a growth path.

Referring to the company's ongoing investments, Vatsa cited the combined investment of $700 million by Nissan and another $1.8 million by the Renault-Nissan Alliance.

"The proof is in the pudding," he said, noting that pre-production work on new vehicle models has already begun, and plans for domestic sales as well as exports are also progressing on schedule.

As part of its overall expansion plan, Nissan plans to increase the production capacity in India to 200,000 units a year by fiscal 2026-27.

Of these, approximately 100,000 units are expected to be exported to overseas markets.
