Kia India has launched the all-new Carens Clavis in a formal ceremony, with prices for the introductory offer starting at Rs. 11.49 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Clavis places itself alongside the current Carens MPV—which has now been reduced to a single Prestige (O) variant—effectively increasing the lineup many times over. Deliveries should be starting in the next week.

Features of Design and Interior of the Carens Clavis
Though it retains the recognisable MPV posture of the Carens line, the Clavis brings with it a new front fascia, reworked alloy wheels, and a stylish connected tail lamp signature exclusive to Kia. Inside, though the underpinnings are similar, the features include dual digital screens and an upgraded blue-and-beige cabin theme. Buyers can opt for six- or seven-seater versions. Kia has also added to the options list, including premium features such as Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree surround view camera, electric parking brake, powered driver's seat, and drive modes. The car also gains a more sophisticated connected car platform for more functionality.

Engine and Transmission Options
The Clavis range is driven by three unique 1.5-litre engine choices. The normally aspirated petrol engine produces 113 bhp and 144 Nm, mated with a six-speed manual. A more performance-oriented 1.5-litre turbo GDi petrol engine produces 158 bhp and 253 Nm and is available with a six-speed manual, six-speed iMT, or seven-speed DCT. There is an option for diesel fans to use the 1.5-litre diesel engine, which produces 113 bhp and 250 Nm, offered with six-speed manual or six-speed torque converter automatic.

Market Positioning and Competition
Priced across a large spectrum, the Carens Clavis is aimed at a very large audience. Lower and mid-level variants will be pitted against immensely popular models like the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Honda Elevate, MG Astor, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. Top-end variants will be pitted against base trims of more premium three-row SUVs like the Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus, and Mahindra XUV700.
