5.82 lakh people lost lives in 17 lakh road accidents in 4 yrs: Government

In 2017, 464,910 accidents left 147,913 dead and 470,975 injured, while in 2018, the number of accidents were 467,044, killing 151,417 people and injuring 469,418, while in 2019, 449,002 accidents left 151,113 dead and in 2020, the number of accidents decreased to 366,138 which left 131,714 people dead and 348,279 injured, Road Transport Nitin Gadkari told the Lok Sabha in a written reply.
Muslim youth hacked to death in Karnataka; prohibitory orders clamped

The deceased Muslim youth has been identified as Mohammed Fazil, a resident of Mangalpete near Surathkal, located on the outskirts of Mangaluru. The incident took place on Thursday evening. The police sources suspect the incident to be a revenge killing allegedly by Hindutva activists, however, an official statement is yet to be made regarding the motive behind the murder.

Largest pink diamond in 300 years discovered in Angola

The pink stone has been named the "Lulo Rose", after the mine in Angola where it was found. It will be sold later this year through an international tender to be conducted by Angolan state-owned diamond trading firm Sodium, reports Xinhua news agency. This is the fifth largest diamond from a total of 27 diamonds with more than 100 carats extracted to date in the Lulo mining project.
Muslims in Kanpur not to take out Paiki procession in Muharram

Haj organisers don't conduct religious ceremony, can't be exempted from GST: SC

A bench, headed by Justice A.M. Khanwilkar and comprising Justices Abhay S. Oka and C.T. Ravikumar said: "The service rendered by HGOs (Haj group organisers) to Haj pilgrims is to facilitate them to reach at the destination to perform rituals/religious ceremonies. No religious ceremony is performed or conducted by the HGOs. The religious ceremony is conducted by Haj pilgrims or by someone else in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia."
UP, Bengal top list of states in custodial death cases: Centre

A total of 501 and 451 cases of custodial deaths were registered in Uttar Pradesh in 2021-22 and 2020-21, respectively, and 257 and 185 such cases were registered in West Bengal during the same years, Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai told the Lok Sabha in a written reply.
Sreekumar and Teesta were tutoring witnesses: SIT to Ahmedabad court

The SIT on Monday while opposing Sreekumar's bail application said, "The applicant (Sreekumar) was a party to conspiracy and was also involved himself in tutoring witnesses. A witness has stated before the Nanavati Commission that I am saying what Teesta and Sreekumar told us to say."
