ED arrests Iqbal Ibrahim Kaskar in money-laundering case
The development came after a Mumbai Court granted permission to the ED to interrogate Iqbal Kaskar, who was arrested by Thane Police's Anti-Extortion Cell in 2017 and remains in custody since then. The ED will produce him before a Special PMLA Court for remand and further investigations. The ED has recorded the statements of six persons in connection with the money-laundering cases and a few more including builders and politicians are likely to be questioned.
Battle for UP: Third phase crucial for SP, BJP
Polling in the third phase will be held on February 20 on 59 seats spread across 16 districts. These include five districts from western UP -- Firozabad, Mainpuri, Etah, Kasganj and Hathras. Aligarh college bans entry of students not in uniform
The directives come two days after a group of students wearing saffron scarves held a protest in the campus, demanding ban of 'hijab' in the college premises. The principal of the college, Dr Raj Kumar Verma, said, in view of the college discipline, the administration has issued a notice in this regard. "We will not allow students' entry in the premises with covered faces, as some students were recently spotted wearing hijab and burqa in the campus," he said.
'On your responsibility': Calcutta HC allows abortion for 34 week pregnant woman
In an unprecedented decision, the Calcutta High Court, considering the post-delivery complications of the mother and the child, on Thursday allowed a 34 weeks pregnant woman to undergo abortion. So far, the Supreme Court allowed abortion only upto 24 weeks. However, the High Court made it clear that neither it nor the doctors will take the responsibility for the woman during abortion.
Yogi govt withdraws notice to anti-CAA protesters
The move to seize properties of people involved in the December 2019 protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) comes after the Supreme Court pointed out last week that the state may have overreached itself. "The state government has withdrawn the notices for the recovery of damages," said a senior officer.
Dhankhar invites Mamata for talks at Raj Bhavan

Modi to inaugurate Asia's largest Bio-CNG plant in Indore on Feb 19
The plant will be operated using 100 per cent wet waste, which is estimated to produce around 18,000 kg gas per day. Indore Municipal Corporation has estimated that the amount of Bio-CNG will help to run around 400 buses in the city daily. This plant has been built on a PPP model, from which the Indore Municipal Corporation will earn a revenue of Rs 2.5 crore per annum.
Delhi sees 739 fresh Covid cases, 5 deaths
The Covid positivity rate has risen to 1.48 per cent, while active cases have reduced to 3,026. With Covid recovery rate continuing at 98.42 per cent, the death rate stands at 1.41 per cent. With 905 patients recovering in the last 24 hours, the total number of recoveries has gone to 18,25,050. A total of 1,945 Covid patients are being treated in home isolation at present.
