Indian-American Vivek Ramaswamy, after suspending his presidential campaign, has suggested that it would be "healthy for the country" if Republican candidates Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis drop out of the 2024 White House race and endorse former President Donald Trump. Ramaswamy, a biotech entrepreneur, mentioned that the Republican voter base in Iowa has made it clear that they want Trump to be the presidential nominee. He believes that DeSantis and Haley stepping aside would be beneficial for the party and the country.
Trump, who faced more than 90 criminal charges, emerged victorious in Iowa, consolidating his position as the frontrunner for the Republican nomination. Despite hopes of overtaking Trump in the primaries, the gap between the former President and his rivals remains substantial. Ramaswamy, who previously ran for the Republican nomination, suggested that the electorate has sent a clear message that they want Trump to be the party's nominee.
While acknowledging the positive message sent to him during his campaign, Ramaswamy emphasized the need for the Republican Party to focus on nominating Donald Trump and reviving the country's founding revolutionary ideals. Trump, fresh from winning the Iowa Caucus, made his first campaign trail appearance in New Hampshire, where Ramaswamy joined him on stage and delivered a fiery speech. Trump praised Ramaswamy and indicated that he would be working with the campaign for an extended period.
