In a show of solidarity with Israel, President Joe Biden of the United States strongly denounced Iran's assault on Israeli territory, pledging to convene the G7 leaders on Monday to formulate a unified diplomatic response.
Over the course of Saturday night, Iran and its affiliated groups from Yemen, Syria, and Iraq launched an onslaught of over 200 projectiles towards Israel. This included a barrage of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles.
In a statement released by the White House, President Biden expressed his condemnation in unequivocal terms, stating, "Earlier today, Iran, along with its proxies based in Yemen, Syria, and Iraq, carried out an unprecedented aerial assault on military installations in Israel. I condemn these attacks in the strongest possible terms."
The United States had already taken proactive measures in the preceding week by deploying aircraft and ballistic missile defense destroyers to Israel, contributing significantly to intercepting the majority of the incoming drones and missiles.
President Biden emphasized, "In support of Israel's defense, the U.S. military was directed to move aircraft and ballistic missile defense destroyers to the region over the past week. Through these deployments and the exceptional expertise of our servicemembers, we aided Israel in neutralizing nearly all incoming threats."
Additionally, President Biden held discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, reiterating the unwavering commitment of the United States to Israel's security.
"I have just concluded a conversation with Prime Minister Netanyahu to reaffirm America's steadfast commitment to Israel's security. I commended Israel for its remarkable ability to defend against and repel even the most unprecedented attacks, sending a clear message to its adversaries that they cannot jeopardize Israel's security," remarked President Biden.
Looking ahead, President Biden announced plans to convene the G7 leaders to coordinate a cohesive diplomatic response to Iran's brazen aggression. He underscored the importance of engagement with counterparts across the region in addressing this challenge collectively.
Furthermore, President Biden reassured that the United States would maintain close communication with Israeli leadership.
"We will continue to maintain close communication with Israel's leadership. While there have been no direct attacks on our forces or facilities today, we remain vigilant against all threats and will not hesitate to take decisive action to safeguard our people," he affirmed.
