In the aftermath of the fatal Pahalgam terror strike that killed a minimum of 26, the United Arab Emirates and Japan have expressed strong support for India in combating terrorism.
Indian multi-party delegations have been actively addressing world capitals to address the issue of terrorism originating from Pakistan and mobilise international backing.
A Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde-led delegation met principal UAE officials in Abu Dhabi, such as Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the Minister of Tolerance, and Ali Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Defence Committee, among other senior leaders. In Tokyo, a separate delegation of Indian parliamentarians, led by JD(U) member Sanjay Jha, met with Japan's Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya and other officials.
"Terrorism is a threat not just to individual states or regions but to the whole global community. It is important that we, especially Members of Parliaments across the globe, unite and come up with effective measures to create a safer world for all of humanity," Ali Al Nuaimi stated in a press conference in Abu Dhabi.
The Indian Embassy in Japan put out a statement attributing words to Foreign Minister Iwaya, who explicitly condemned terrorism and offered deepest sympathies to the victims of the April 22 Pahalgam attack. He reiterated Japan's solidarity with India and the world community's fight against terrorism.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar underlined these diplomatic moves by tweeting, "Great to see #TeamIndia taking our message of zero tolerance for terrorism to the world."
A third delegation of DMK Lok Sabha member K Kanimozhi will travel to Russia and four European countries to underscore India's intention to fight terror in all its manifestations. In all, India is sending seven multi-party delegations to 33 countries to impart the international community the realities of Pakistan's involvement in terrorism and India's action.
The Pahalgam attack had aggressively increased tensions between India and Pakistan. In return, India carried out precision attacks on terror facilities in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7. Pakistan then attempted multiple attacks on Indian army bases on May 8, 9, and 10, leading India to retaliate through counterattacks on air bases.
In Abu Dhabi, Shinde's delegation also had a meeting with Ahmed Mir Khoori, Federal National Council member, and Jamal Mohammed Obaid Al Kaabi, Director General of the National Media Office. Shinde stated, "The message from the UAE leadership has been clear-cut—they stand firmly with us against terrorism. Terrorism cannot be justified in the name of religion."
The UAE delegation, along with Shinde, comprised MPs Manan Kumar Mishra (BJP), Sasmit Patra (BJD), E T Mohammed Basheer (IUML), S S Ahluwalia (BJP), Atul Garg (BJP), Bansuri Swaraj (BJP), former diplomat Sujan R Chinoy, and India's Ambassador to the UAE, Sunjay Sudhir.
Jaishankar shared the same message of togetherness, tweeting, "A nation united sends a strong message on combating terrorism." UAE Minister of Tolerance and Co-Existence Sheikh Nahyan Mabarak Al Nahyan shared profound condolences for the Pahalgam attack victims and reaffirmed the UAE's commitment to confront terrorism together with India, saying, "The UAE will always stand by India."
In Tokyo, the Sanjay Jha-led delegation highlighted that the attack on Pahalgam was an attempted sabotage of peace and development in Jammu and Kashmir. Japan's Foreign Minister reiterated backing for India's efforts against terrorism and praised India's balanced and moderate response.
The delegation also met with former Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, now Liberal Democratic Party Vice President and chairman of the Japan-India Association, and House of Representatives Committee on National Security chairman Takashi Endo.
Jha specifically told the Japanese authorities that India's Operation Sindoor was a targeted, specific, and proportionate response to the Pahalgam attack, and meant no escalation. "India has zero tolerance for terrorism and does not make any distinction between terrorists and their sponsors," he said.
He appealed for Japan's continued cooperation in bringing the perpetrators of terrorism to justice, drawing on the UN Security Council Press Statement of 25 April 2025, which demanded justice against the patrons, financiers, and sponsors of terrorism.
The delegation also interacted with top Japanese think tanks to apprise them of India's strong stand against terrorism. The participants conveyed unflinching support for India's initiative.
Earlier during the visit, the delegation offered floral tributes at Tokyo's Edogawa statue of Mahatma Gandhi.
Japanese members of the delegation consisted of BJP MPs Aparajita Sarangi, Brijlal, Pradhan Barua, Hemang Joshi, former External Affairs Minister and Congress leader Salman Khurshid, TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee, CPI(M)'s John Brittas, and former diplomat Mohan Kumar.
