Wearing a traditional style for her first-time appearance at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, Bollywood legend Aishwarya Rai Bachchan opted for a timeless old-world look as she walked the red carpet draped in an elegant ivory Banarasi handloom saree.
After two decades of being a Cannes regular, Aishwarya was at the festival in advance of The History of Sound's premiere, Oliver Hermanus's period drama starring actors Paul Mescal and Josh O'Connor.
The actress was stunning in the heavily embroidered ivory saree, with a long pallu and a beautiful lace train, designed by famous fashion designer Manish Malhotra.
She topped her outfit with a stacked ruby necklace from Malhotra's jewelry line and wore vermillion along her hair parting.
Fashion designer Manish Malhotra posted on Instagram, "The OG Indian Queen of Cannes @aishwaryaraibachchan_arb wears Classic White Handloom in a handwoven kadwa ivory Handloom Banarasi saree with a handwoven tissue drape and imperial heirloom of rubies from @manishmalhotrajewellery."
Social media videos showed the 51-year-old actress looking radiant as she flashed her warm smile and waved at her fans on the red carpet.
The 78th Cannes Film Festival is celebrating a powerful Indian presence this year, with director Payal Kapadia being on the main competition jury.
At the same time, Bollywood legends Sharmila Tagore and Simi Garewal were present at the world premiere of the restored classic Satyajit Ray's Aranyer Din Ratri (1970) on Wednesday. Director Neeraj Ghaywan also presented his film Homebound under the Un Certain Regard section, with actors Janhvi Kapoor, Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and producer Karan Johar.
