Trump Weighs Debate Decision with Harris as 2024 Presidential Campaign Intensifies

I want to, Trump said in an interview with Fox News. And we're leading in the polls it seems by quite a bit still. She's better than he is, but I think ultimately she'll be worse than him."

Former US President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said on Friday he had not yet decided whether to agree to a debate with his would-be Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris.

Trump further opined, "If I didn't do the debate, they'd say, 'Oh Trump's not doing the debate.' It's the same thing they'll say now. I mean right now I say, why should I do a debate? I'm leading in the polls. And everybody knows her, everybody knows me.".

The Harris Campaign responded that Trump refused to debate, which made him look like he was dodging the debate stage with Kamala Harris. They said Trump, who vowed months ago to debate "any time, any place," is now backtracking from that pledge. "And it's no mystery why?".

The campaign resurfaced a moment from months prior when Trump had a difficult time with an uphill interview at NABJ; his team abruptly cut it short after it went off the rails quickly. They say he's now dodging tough questions and his opponent—in effect, he has no guts.

Cedric Richmond, one of the co-chairs of Harris for President, challenged Trump to confront Harris directly. "Donald Trump needs to man up. He's got no problem spreading lies and hateful garbage at his rallies or in interviews with right-wing commentators. But he's apparently too scared to do it standing across the stage from the Vice President of the United States," Richmond said.

He added, "Since he talks the talk, he should walk the walk and—like the Vice President Harris said earlier this week—say it to her face on September 10. She will wait for him to turn up.".
