While his Republican rivals engaged in a war of words at the first presidential primary debate in Milwaukee on Wednesday, Donald Trump appeared on former Fox News presenter Tucker Carlson's show where he took digs at President Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

Patel, a 29-year-old former chief of staff to Fort Bend County Judge K.P. George, will run as a Democrat for the seat held by longtime Republican Commissioner Andy Meyers.

ABC News said that according to police he was charged with "threatening to kill, kidnap or inflict harm on a President, Vice President or their families". The network reported that three law enforcement sources confirmed that Kandula told law enforcement that "he wanted to seize power, take over the government and kill the president".

Importantly for Harris, however, she is still on the ticket, the first American woman, the only Indian-American as well as the only Asian American to get this high in US politics. She stands to carry all these first, and some more perhaps, to the presidency if President Joe Biden does not complete his second term. Questions related to the President's age have, since his announcement, moved from should he run to whether he will complete the second term.

"The question we are facing is whether in the years ahead we have more freedom or less freedom, more rights or fewer," Biden said a video announcement. "I know what I want the answer to be. This is not a time to be complacent. That's why I'm running for re-election."

The Fine Gael party leader assumed the prime ministership at the head of a coalition on Saturday under an agreement with partner Fianna Fail party to swap the leadership in the middle of its term. The 43-year-old Varadkar had done a stint as prime minister or Taoiseach, as it is formally known in the Gaelic language - from 2017 to 2020.

While Harris is ranked third, Sitharaman is at number 36 on the list that was released on Tuesday highlighting "innovators and instigators who are leading on the world stage to redefine traditional power structures". This is the fourth year in a row that Sitharaman made it to the list. Last year, she was in the 37th spot, 41st in 2020 and 34th in 2019.

Video clips on social media showed dozens of migrants getting off a bus near the US Naval Observatory on early Thursday morning, reports Xinhua news agency. Many of the migrants reportedly came from Venezuela. They were said to have been greeted by aid groups and transported in smaller buses to nearby accommodations.
