According to the belief of Donald Trump's campaign, a possible nomination of Kamala Harris as the Democratic candidate for the 2024 presidential elections is a further sore development, which critics have described as more undemocratic. She has been criticized as untested in any ballot, with the situation compared to what people witness in communist China and other such regimes.
Harris is the first VP with Indian and African heritage. She was declared the Democrat nominee after she reached the number of votes needed from delegates during a virtual roll call on Friday. She faces former President Trump, now 78, on November 5, the day she will turn 59 years old.
The Trump campaign blasted the process as a threat to democracy and the will of the people, saying that Harris, whom it called the most unpopular vice president in modern history, was not directly elected. It charged that the Democratic Party had held a nontransparent process where elite took the place of direct election to replace President Joe Biden, 81, with Harris—a process more akin to that run in an authoritarian state.
The Trump campaign has also claimed that Harris is hidden from view, of sorts, to avoid the type of national exposure that would go with her extreme liberal views and, in their perception, her unsuitability for the presidency. Trump now says he will strongly come after the senator, promising what he called a dramatic confrontation with her at an upcoming rally.
Described by Trump's campaign email as a 'turning point', the upcoming Atlanta rally did represent an essential swing state: it was going to be the occasion when Trump would finally take on Harris. He refers to the occasion as a landmark moment when he was going to deal a heavy blow to Harris's political career.
The formal acceptance will come after virtual voting concludes next week, with her making an official acceptance at the Democratic National Convention on August 22 in Chicago. She is also expected to name her vice-presidential running mate soon.
Historically, this marks the first such candidacy by Harris since she went on to be the first woman of color in American history to be put at the head of a major political party's presidential ticket. She was also the first person of Indian descent to be put forward by either the Democrats or Republicans.
