On Monday, US President Donald Trump asserted that his administration had prevented a potential "nuclear war" between India and Pakistan. Trump said that he encouraged both nations to put an end to combat by assuring them that they would have chances of securing huge trade deals if they did so.
Addressing the White House, Trump said, "On Saturday, my administration brokered a complete and immediate ceasefire, I think, a lasting one, between India and Pakistan, ending a perilous conflict between two nations with many nuclear weapons.". And they were at it hot and heavy, and it seemed not going to let up." He referred to the recent happenings as "historic" and emphasized the gravity of the situation. However, sources within the Indian government in New Delhi have insisted that the ceasefire accord was reached by the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan without a third party intervention.
Trump went on, praising the virility of India and Pakistan's leadership, stating, "The leadership of India and Pakistan was virile, but in both cases, unshakeable, possessing the wisdom and virility to fully appreciate the gravity of the situation." He praised the leaders for their virility in stopping the war.
He also claimed, "And we helped a lot, and we helped also with trade. I said, 'Come on, we're going to do a lot of trade with you guys. Let's stop it. Let's stop it. If you stop it, we're doing trade. If you don't stop it, we're not going to do any trade.'" For Trump, the threat of trade was a significant reason that made both nations agree on signing the ceasefire.
Trump went on, "People have never really used trade like I used it, that I can assure you, and then all of a sudden they said, 'I think we're going to stop,' and they did, and they did it for a lot of different reasons, but trade is one of them. We're going to do tremendous amounts of trade with Pakistan. We're going to do tremendous amounts of trade with India.". We are currently negotiating with India. We are going to shortly negotiate with Pakistan, and we averted nuclear war.
He concluded by stating, "I think it may have been a disastrous nuclear war. A million lives might have been lost. So I'm very proud of that. I'd also like to thank Vice President Vance and Secretary of State Rubio for their efforts and work—they worked quite hard on that."
