To address this alarming situation, the US reached out to India and China for assistance in dissuading Russia from pursuing such a course of action. The CNN report highlighted the significant impact of public statements and outreach efforts made by Chinese leader Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in preventing the crisis from escalating further.
Senior officials emphasized the importance of rallying support from key countries to convey a unified message of concern to Russia. During a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Uzbekistan, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the necessity of seeking a peaceful resolution to the conflict. He underscored the values of democracy, diplomacy, and dialogue in preserving global peace and stability.
In response, President Putin acknowledged India's concerns while pledging to make efforts towards resolving the conflict. Despite assigning blame to Ukraine for prolonging the crisis, he expressed a willingness to work towards de-escalation. PM Modi's diplomatic engagement emphasized the importance of dialogue and cooperation in preventing conflicts and fostering international harmony.
