Malala, who at age 17 became the youngest-ever Nobel Peace Prize laureate, became a global celebrity when an assassination attempt was made on her in 2012 in retaliation for her activism when she was only 15. A bullet pierced her head and she was flown from Pakistan to Birmingham in a critical condition.
COP26: Bold commitments to put gender equality at forefront

During the 'Advancing Gender Equality in Climate Action' event held on Tuesday, countries set out bold new steps and ambitious pledges to ensure climate action is gender-responsive and to improve women's leadership and meaningful participation in climate action. Progress, from Generation Equality Action Coalition members and other actors, included Bolivia committing to promote the leadership of women and girls, especially indigenous, Afro-Bolivian, community and rural women, through their participation in the design of sustainable development projects.
France warns under 30 not to take Moderna vax over myocarditis risk

The nation's Public Health Authority (Haute Autorite de Sante) said those under age 30 should get the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid vaccine instead of the Moderna jab, Daily Mail reported. Previously, Denmark, Iceland, Finland and Sweden had either restricted or recommended against the use of the Moderna vaccine in young adults. Even after rising concerns about the vaccine in Europe, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has stood by its authorisation of the shots.
Germany's Covid incidence rate rises to all-time high

On Monday, the incidence rate was already at a record high of 201.1. The previous peak -- just below 200 -- was registered during the second Covid-19 wave in December last year. The daily number of Covid-19 cases also continued to rise as 21,832 new infections were registered within one day, around 11,000 more than a week earlier, Xinhua news agency reported. According to the German Intensive Care Availability Register (DIVI), the number of Covid-19 patients requiring treatment in intensive care units (ICUs) also kept climbing and reached 2,687 on Tuesday.
Imran Khan authorised force against TLP but Pak military opposed

China, US & EU to occupy more than 90% carbon space by 2050: Study

India, on the other hand, would emit 59 per cent less than China, 58 per cent less than the US, and 49 per cent less than the EU, from 1850 to 2100, on a cumulative basis, despite turning net-zero two decades later than the US and the EU and a decade later than China," the CEEW analysis that took into account the existing net-zero pledges of these countries, said.
Migrant caravan to skip Mexico City, head straight to US border

Irineo Mujica, director of immigrant rights group Pueblo Sin Fronteras (People Without Borders) and a leader of the caravan, said in a video posted on social media and cited by local media that the caravan will no longer go first to Mexico's capital, as initially planned, reported Xinhua news agency. Mujica said he expects to be joined by another caravan in 10 days, and urged migrants in other parts of south Mexico to join the journey toward the US border.
NASA delays human lunar landing to 2025

The US space agency was expected to pick two lunar lander prototypes (including one of Blue Origin's) but funding cuts from the US Congress led the agency to select Elon Musk-run SpaceX over Blue Origin. In retaliation, Blue Origin applied to the US Government Accountability Office (GAO) in April, and put SpaceX's lunar lander contract on hold for 95 days.
50 nations commit to develop climate-resilient health systems

The governments of these 50 countries, which include some of those most vulnerable to the health harms caused by climate change as well as some of the world's biggest carbon emitters, have committed to take concrete steps towards creating climate-resilient health systems. As many as 45 of these countries have also committed to transform their health systems to be more sustainable and low-carbon. Fourteen have set a target date to reach net zero carbon emissions on or before 2050.
US House Jan 6 panel subpoenas more former Trump officials

The ex-officials being subpoenaed include former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, former Senior Adviser to the President Stephen Miller, former White House Personnel Director John McEntee, former Deputy Chief of Staff Christopher Liddell, and ex-Vice President Mike Pence's national security advisor Keith Kellogg, Xinhua reported.
