Pakistan and PML-N founder three-time Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has requested his younger brother Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to make diplomacy its policy direction towards India with categorically, directing him in so many words that he's against going to hard line.
Sharif brothers spent a Sunday evening in Lahore, when Nawaz was briefed by Shehbaz about the recent government actions against India. The actions were taken after the National Security Committee (NSC) meeting, particularly after India's action to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) due to the Pahalgam terror attack.
Shehbaz Sharif, according to IANS reports, described how his government had tracked India's action, including closing Pakistan's air space to Indian planes. He also informed about Pakistan's preparedness to counter any Indian assault fiercely.
"PM Shehbaz briefed his elder brother and party founder that India's unilateral action to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty had raised the risk of war in the region," the source revealed.
In an act of goodwill, Nawaz Sharif ordered Prime Minister Shehbaz to refrain from ratcheting up tensions and rather focus on leveraging diplomatic channels in order to spur a peaceful process.
Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, however, has proposed forming an international commission to probe the Pahalgam attack. He urged that the probe be led by personnel from the United States, Russia, China, and Britain.
