Democratic Party made official Kamala Harris and Tim Walz as its presidential and vice-presidential nominees, respectively. It followed immediately after Monday's close of delegate voting on August 5th and after formal certification by Convention Secretary Jason Rae.
Convention Chair Minyon Moore went further to ratify Walz as running mate to Harris. DNC Chair Jaime Harrison had every reason to be proud of the announcement, saying, "It is with great honor that I congratulate Kamala Harris and Tim Walz as the Democratic Party's nominees for President and Vice President." According to him, the ticket of Harris-Walz is the future of the party and America at large. They are committed to lowering costs for working families and to stand up for reproductive freedom and democracy.
Harrison pointed to the unanimous support of the ticket by showing 99% of all the delegates who supported the efforts to make Harris President in the November election. Minyon Moore verified that Harris and Walz were officially nominated, recognizing thousands of delegates working day and night to ensure that every voter will be able to support the Democratic nominees.
Ahead, he said, attention turns to Chicago, where delegates will herald the nomination by ceremonial roll call vote before taking the story of the Harris-Walz ticket to the battle lines to take on Donald Trump.
On a related note, according to a recent NPR/PBS News/Marist National Poll, Harris holds a three-point lead over former President Trump in a head-to-head contest of registered voters, including undecideds leaning toward a candidate. This is a four-point change from late last month, when Trump held a slight edge on Harris after President Joe Biden exited the race. Harris has appeared to gain momentum among independents, Black voters, white voters with college degrees, women, and those 35 and older. Again, she holds the lead in a field of candidates pitting her against Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Jill Stein, Cornel West, and Chase Oliver in a crowded contest.
