Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant emphasized the urgency of finding a diplomatic resolution with Hezbollah, citing a narrow window of opportunity for such a solution. Gallant's statement came during a meeting in Tel Aviv with US Senior Advisor Amos Hochstein, who arrived in Israel aiming to de-escalate tensions between Israel and the Lebanese militant group, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
The Israel Government Press Office released a statement detailing discussions during Hochstein's meeting with Gallant and other senior military officials. The focus was on briefing the US envoy about the security situation along Israel's northern border and the necessary conditions required by the defense establishment to enable the return of over 80,000 displaced Israelis to their homes.
Simultaneously, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed conducting airstrikes on multiple Hezbollah sites in southern Lebanon, as per statements released on Thursday. The targets included a rocket launch position, an observation post, and various infrastructure belonging to the Lebanese military group.
Reports from the Jerusalem Post highlighted a recent shift in the IDF's approach, indicating a more aggressive and expansive targeting of Hezbollah over the past three to four weeks.
This escalating situation underscores the gravity of tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, prompting both diplomatic engagements and military actions in an effort to address and potentially defuse the mounting conflict along Israel's northern border.
