According to a media report, Iranian forces have successfully eliminated Ismail Shahbakhsh, a senior commander of the Jaish al-Adl militant group, along with some of his associates in Pakistan. This development comes in the aftermath of recent airstrikes exchanged between the two nations.
Iran's state media, cited by Iran international media on X, announced the operation, stating, "In an armed clash within Pakistani territory, military forces have eliminated Ismail Shahbakhsh, a senior commander of the Jaish al-Adl militant group, along with several of his associates."
Jaish al-Adl, recognized as a Sunni extremist organization, has been designated as a terrorist group by Iran. It predominantly operates in the southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchistan, as reported by Al Arabiya News.
The tension between Iran and Pakistan escalated following the airstrikes, leading to the recall of ambassadors by both nations. Pakistan has expressed concerns about Baloch terrorist groups finding sanctuary across the border in Iran's Sistan-Balochistan province, while Iran alleges that anti-Iran militant organizations, including Jaish al-Adl, have hideouts in Pakistan's Balochistan province.
After diplomatic negotiations, both countries have agreed to restore bilateral ties and reinstate ambassadors, signaling a step towards de-escalation.
