Energised by the historic moment of having a member of their community as the Democratic presidential nominee, a group of elated Indian-Americans has launched a new website called DesiPresident.com, with the slogan 'Kamala Ke Saath.'
Kamala Harris, 59, has a diverse background, with her mother emigrating from Chennai to the U.S. and her father hailing from Jamaica.
Their website stated, "The new months are going to be full of activity and promise as we come together to make some history. Your participation and enthusiasm are the keys towards our success, and we can't wait to get started along with you.".
Celebrating the occasion, a T-shirt with the message "Kamala Ke Saath: Vote Kamala" has been prepared as part of the Desi President initiative, a project of the Indian American Impact Fund, which suddenly went viral on social media.
The group also hosts a weekly virtual phone bank, dubbed "Kamala Ke Saath," to engage with voters and supporters over the phone. One such T-shirt reached the hands of Indian American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi last week at an event hosted by Indian American Impact Fund.
Be it presidential campaigns, using Hindi slogans is not a new idea at all; for instance, "Ab Ki Baar Trump Sarkaar" was one such slogan used by the Trump Campaign in 2016.
The Indian American Impact Fund posted a status: "The Indian American Impact Fund endorses Kamala Devi Harris for President. We're mobilizing South Asian voters to help elect the first Indian-American president. Kamala Harris stands for our values and communities.".
