The signboard of an Indiana, USA, Hindu temple was vandalized, a move the Indian consulate decried as "reprehensible."
The attack, labeled a "hateful act," took place at the BAPS Swaminarayan Temple in Greenwood, as per the official public affairs account of the temple on X on Tuesday. It is the fourth such incident in less than a year targeting a BAPS temple.
The Indian Consulate in Chicago strongly denounced the act as "reprehensible." In an X post, it said, "Desecration of main signboard of the BAPS Swaminarayan Temple in Greenwood, Indiana is reprehensible," and added that it had referred the issue to law enforcement authorities for "prompt action.
The post further stated that the consul general addressed a congregation of devotees and local leaders, including the Mayor of Greenwood, stressing "unity & solidarity, and watchfulness against miscreants there."
The temple administration further said that the incident has "strengthened our community's resolve, and we remain united in our stand against anti-religious behavior.
Earlier, in March, a BAPS Hindu temple in California saw a similar act of desecration by an anonymous person.
