Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI), exercised his voting rights for the general elections through a postal ballot while being detained in Adiala Jail, according to reports from local media sources.
Notably, other incarcerated political leaders, including former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, former Punjab province chief minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rashid, and former information minister Fawad Chaudhry, were also eligible to vote via postal ballots.
However, Imran Khan's wife, Bushra Bibi, was unable to cast her vote as she was convicted and arrested after the completion of the postal voting process.
It's reported that only inmates possessing valid computerised national identity cards (CNICs) were permitted to participate in the voting process, as stated by jail authorities.
In a social media post shared on Wednesday, PTI Central Information Secretary Raoof Hasan highlighted Imran Khan's dedication to restoring the country's dignity, honour, and sovereignty, as well as ensuring the welfare of its people. Hasan emphasized the importance of citizens utilizing their votes to bring about positive change in Pakistan by challenging and reforming the existing political system.
