Imran Khan Stands Firm: No Apology for May 9 Protests

Addressing the media from Adiala jail after court proceedings, Khan maintained that he was unaware about the May 9 protests due to being in jail at that time. He mentioned that he condemned the incidents in front of former Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, which means that when he was produced before the judiciary, he did acknowledge the protests.

Jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, however, continues to stand by his decision not to apologize for the riots on 9 May. This was in response to the precondition set by the military that his party had to issue a public apology before they are ready to hold talks. While he said he was prepared for an investigation regarding the sit-in staged by his Pakistan Tehreek-Insaf party in 2014, he was booked in the Al Qadir corruption case.

Since his arrest in August last year, Khan has been embroiled in cases ranging from corruption to violations of the Official Secrets Act. Responding to the DG ISPR press conference in which an apology was demanded from the perpetrators of May 9 violence, Khan once again maintained that he was ready to engage in dialogue for the betterment of Pakistan. According to the former PM, he did not wish for any "deal" or to run away from this country.

The May 9, 2023, chaos had been triggered by supporters of Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party following his arrest on corruption charges. Military installatioans such as the Jinnah House, Mianwali Airbase, and the ISI building in Faisal.
