Modi will take oath to office to become the prime minister of India for an unprecedented third term in a row, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) winning 293 seats in the Lok Sabha elections results of which were declared on Tuesday.

Wickremesinghe conveyed his congratulations to Modi over a phone call on Wednesday evening, extending his warmest wishes to the BJP-led NDA for their "victory, which reflects the trust of the Indian people in the progress and prosperity under Modi's leadership."
“As the closest neighbour, Sri Lanka looks forward to further strengthening the partnership with India," expressed the Sri Lankan president in a statement.
In another announcement by the President's Media Division of Sri Lanka, it was stated, “During the conversation, Prime Minister @narendramodi invited President Wickremesinghe to his swearing-in ceremony, which President @RW_UNP accepted.”
