Giorgia Meloni officially closes G7 Summit 2024, mentions PM Modi in her final media briefing

As the current president of the Group of Seven industrialized nations, Italy welcomed leaders from the US, UK, Canada, Japan, Germany, France, and the European Union (EU). Additionally, representatives from 11 countries of the Global South, including India, attended the summit. 

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Saturday officially concluded the G7 Summit in Apulia, a region in southern Italy. During her closing remarks, she highlighted her discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in which they explored ways to enhance the bilateral strategic partnership.

Prime Minister Modi had a bilateral meeting with Meloni on Friday evening following his day-long visit, which included participating in the Outreach session and several bilateral discussions on the sidelines.

Meloni mentioned to reporters in her final media briefing on Saturday, "With Mr Modi, we explored opportunities to strengthen our strategic partnership which began in 2022."

She also highlighted key points from the G7 discussions, emphasizing the delegates' dedication to the Indo-Pacific region as a clear message to China. 
 

"We are open to dialogue but our companies must be able to compete on an equal footing within a free and fair market," she said.
