G7 warns Russia of 'massive consequences' and 'severe cost' if Ukraine is attacked

The statement by G7 warning Russia was issued at a  summit in the northern English city Liverpool, where the G7 delegates urged Moscow to de-escalate the military troops set up along the borders of Ukraine and said that the seven countries strongly oppose Russia's plans of attacking the land of Ukraine.

The Foreign Ministers of Group of Seven (G7) richest democracies on Sunday warned Russia of facing massive consequences and severe costs if President Vladimir Putin attacked Ukraine, news agency Reuters reported. The statement by G7 warning Russia was issued at a  summit in the northern English city Liverpool, where the G7 delegates urged Moscow to de-escalate the military troops set up along the borders of Ukraine and said that the seven countries strongly oppose Russia's plans of attacking the land of Ukraine. The G7 comprises of seven nations including Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Canada, and the United States, and a representative from the European Union.

1. "Russia should be in no doubt that further military aggression against Ukraine would have massive consequences and severe cost," the draft statement said, Reuters reported.

2. The G7 leaders also reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the right of any sovereign state to determine its own future, the report added.

3. The US intelligence has assessed that Russia might plan an attack on Ukraine, however, the Russian President has denied all allegations in this regard. In its recent meeting with US President Joe Biden, the Kremlin leader had also said that the expansion of NATO threatens Russia.

4. "Russia has made numerous offers to NATO on ways to decrease tensions. The G7 forum could be an opportunity to discuss them, but so far we hear nothing but aggressive slogans," said the statement issued by Russian Embassy in London on Sunday before the G7 document was reported

5. Ukraine which is at the center crisis of East-West relations has accused Russia of preparing for a possible large-scale military offensive, but Russia claims the troops were set on the borders for Kremlin's own protection.
