Accusing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of harboring a "personal political vendetta" against her predecessor and political rival Khaleda Zia, a senior leader from her party claimed on Sunday that Zia is critically ill and effectively on her "deathbed" due to being denied advanced medical treatment abroad.

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir alleged, "Hasina’s actions are driven by personal political vendetta. It's our misfortune that our leader Khaleda Zia is now in critical condition on her deathbed without receiving any necessary medical treatment abroad."

Zia was swiftly admitted to the CCU, where she began receiving medical treatment under the supervision of a medical board.

Alamgir further accused the current "oppressive fascist" government of imprisoning Zia for an extended period out of vindictiveness, as reported by the news portal.

He stated, "Khaleda fell ill while in Old Dhaka Central Jail, and despite her condition, she received no medical attention there. Although allowed to stay at home, she remains effectively confined and imprisoned."

"The BNP chief made repeated complaints, but the government ignored her pleas and failed to provide adequate medical care. Even upon her transfer to the hospital by jail authorities, she did not receive proper treatment," Alamgir asserted.

"The medical board consistently advised that treating Khaleda's illness in Bangladesh is not feasible and that she requires treatment at a multidisciplinary hospital in a developed country," Alamgir emphasized.

"But Sheikh Hasina, out of her personal political vendetta, has prevented Khaleda from accessing superior medical treatment with the intention to eliminate her from politics," he alleged.
