Russia to further develop nuclear weapons, says Putin

"Our plans include further development of the nuclear triad as a guarantee of strategic deterrence and keeping the balance of power in the world," Putin said on Friday at a meeting with graduates of higher military educational institutions as reported by Xinhua news agency.

Russian President Vladimir Putin declared modernization of the nuclear arsenal in conformity with the creation of a nuclear triad that plays a key role in strategic deterrence and power balance globally. While meeting with graduates from higher military educational institutions, Putin stressed the necessity of a strong nuclear capacity. The nuclear triad of land-based intercontinental ballistic missiles, submarine-launched ballistic missiles, and strategic bombers equipped with nuclear weapons are considered the keystone in Russia's defense strategy.
