The visit comes at a time when relations and defence ties between the two countries have been on an upward trajectory. "This visit is expected to further strengthen and broaden the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership," the Ministry of Defence noted.
Singh would also address a high-profile roundtable with leaders from the US defence industry for an interaction on the present and future potential of the defence industries. Later in the evening on Thursday, Singh is likely to interact with members of the Indian community in the US.
Next comes progress made on the bilateral defence projects—only after the fifth annual India-US 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue held in November 2023. The US reiterated support for the military modernization of India; the US-India Roadmap for Defence Industrial Cooperation; enhancing maritime domain awareness in the Indian Ocean region; and rule of law in the Arabian Sea, and its approaches.
The just-inaugurated India-US Defence Acceleration Ecosystem is the series-next in steps toward joint efforts in innovation of defense technology and co-production of defense equipment/commodities between the two countries. Her visit to India in June became another big step in that series when Sullivan personally experienced strategic collaboration in high technology and defense in the third term of the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
With this broad array of strategic, regional, and bilateral issues between New Delhi and Washington, the visits and discussions at high levels have been the norm, including on the Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies. Launched in January 2023, it was expected that the iCET would gain significantly in building up the strategic partnership between the two countries.
