Combat Antisemitism Movement Voices Opposition to South Africa's Decision to Move ICJ

According to CAM, South Africa's decision appears to be driven by a desire to score domestic political points and align with repressive regimes, rather than a genuine concern for justice.

The Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) strongly criticizes South Africa's decision to bring Israel before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague, accusing them of alleged genocide in Gaza. The proceedings commenced on Thursday, and CAM issued a statement condemning the move.

According to CAM, South Africa's decision appears to be driven by a desire to score domestic political points and align with repressive regimes, rather than a genuine concern for justice. The organization points out that South Africa has a history of exploiting international institutions for narrow political purposes, referencing the 2001 World Conference against Racism (Durban I) as an example.

CAM questions the legitimacy of accusing a nation fighting against genocide of committing the same crime, drawing a parallel to accusing the Allies in World War II of perpetrating genocide against the Nazis. The organization also accuses South Africa of being selective in its accusations of genocide, ignoring other instances worldwide.

Highlighting South Africa's alleged lack of interest in preventing genocide, CAM points to instances where the country ignored an International Criminal Court (ICC) order in 2015 to arrest the former President of Sudan, Omar al-Bashir, during the Darfur conflict.

The statement concludes by asserting that South Africa's actions aim to propagate a "blood libel" against the Jewish homeland, supporting Hamas' intentions. CAM's CEO, Sacha Roytman Dratwa, calls out South Africa for attempting to defame and delegitimize the Jewish state. He condemns the manipulation of the international legal system and urges decent people and nations worldwide to denounce these actions.

The Combat Antisemitism Movement is a global coalition with over 830 partner organizations and four million individuals from diverse backgrounds. Their mission is to fight against antisemitism and bigotry, aiming for a better future for Jews and all of humanity.
