China Describes Border Talks with India as 'Candid'

In a formal release, the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated, "The two sides emphasized in-depth talks on implementing the results of the 23rd meeting of Special Representatives (SRs) for China-India Boundary Question and agreed to prepare together for the 24th meeting."

China on Thursday called its latest bilateral diplomatic talks with India on the current border standoff "candid." The two nations had on Wednesday sat for talks in New Delhi under the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC) on the border issue.

In a formal release, the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated, "The two sides emphasized in-depth talks on implementing the results of the 23rd meeting of Special Representatives (SRs) for China-India Boundary Question and agreed to prepare together for the 24th meeting."

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) too made a statement after the WMCC talks, pointing out that both sides showed "satisfaction at the general existence of peace and tranquillity in the border areas, resulting in gradual normalisation of bilateral relations."

This meeting also facilitated setting the stage for the 24th meeting of the Special Representatives to be held later this year in India.
