No alterations in ascending relations with India: Nepal

KP Sharma Oli government in Nepal is looking to hold the foreign minister-level Joint Commission meeting that will see Nepal foreign minister Pradeep Gyawali visiting India, Nepal’s ambassador to India Nilambar Acharya told the Times of India. The ambassador spoke for the first time ever since the KP Sharma Oli government decided to dissolve the lower house of the parliament last week which translated into huge political unrest in the country.

Kathmandu clarified that the current political instability in the country will not provide any hindrance to the upward trending relations between India and Nepal.

The ambassador spoke for the first time ever since the KP Sharma Oli government decided to dissolve the lower house of the parliament last week which translated into huge political unrest in the country.

"Preparations are on for the Joint Commission meeting and the visit by the foreign minister. The lower house of the Parliament has been dissolved but the government and other institutions are still working," said Acharya, adding that bilateral ties with India had improved significantly in the past few months after the tensions over the Kalapani dispute.

"With the visit by the Indian Army chief and then the foreign secretary, there has been a turnaround in the relationship and this trend is going to hold," said Acharya.

India has steered clear by refusing to turn itself into a factor for Nepal’s internal matter, meanwhile, Kathmandu’s reciprocation comes at a time when strategic ties depending on the bilateral cooperation with Delhi.

China, however, has been making a frenzied effort to keep KP Sharma Oli and his rival PK Dahal Prachanda together.
