The victory saw City go two points clear of Arsenal and means that, should they win again on Sunday at West Ham, they would become the first team in English football history to win four league titles in a row.

Sublime Erling Haaland turned it on in the second half to help Manchester City thrash Tottenham Hotspur 2-0, sending Pep Guardiola's team to the top of the Premier League.

But the game saw City suffer a brief setback as goalkeeper Ederson picked up a head injury following a clash with Cristian Romero to be substituted by substitute goalkeeper Stefan Ortega Moreno. The German stopper was soon in the thick of the action with a series of excellent saves—the best of them being a fine block to preserve City's clean sheet, made on Son Heung-Min.

Haaland was the main source of joy for City, scoring clinically at the near post in the 52nd minute to put the Blues ahead before confidently converting a 90th-minute penalty to take his team 34 games unbeaten in all competitions.
