Vax drive in UP goes awry: Hesitancy, rumour push villagers into river
In Sisoda village in Barabanki -- where a group of residents jumped into the Saryu river to evade vaccination on Sunday -- the residents remain firm in their decision of not getting the jab. Shishupal, a local farmer, said, "People have died even after getting vaccinated. I know of those who have had to be hospitalised after the jab. Jab marna hi hai to vaccine kyon?"
Uttar Pradesh minister's brother appointed prof on EWS quota
Arun Dwiwedi has been appointed as assistant professor in the psychology department from the (EWS) economically weaker section quota. According to reports, there were two posts of assistant professor for the subject of Psychology. While Dr Harendra Sharma has been appointed from the OBC quota, Dr Arun Kumar Dwiwedi has been appointed in EWS (Economically Weaker General Candidate) category.
Now, patient in UP found affected by White Fungus
This is probably the first case of White Fungus that has been traced in India. White fungus was detected in a 70-year-old man who had been earlier treated for Covid-19 at a Delhi hospital in April and was discharged following his recovery.
Ayodhya: Nine 'Shilas' installed at foundation of Ram temple
Special prayers, accompanied by Vedic chants, were held at the Ram Janambhoomi site before the installation of the nine shilas. All the nine shilas - named Nanda, Ajita, Aparajita, Bhadra, Rikta, Jaya, Shukla, Poorna and Saubhagyani were installed. After this, koorma or silver turtle, nag, nagin, navaratna-studded lotus flower, clusters made of roots of Bakul tree and silver vase were also installed.

More bodies found floating in Varanasi, Chandauli
One body was found near Sujabad area of Varanasi and six in Dhanapur area of Chandauli district on Thursday. People in Sujabad area, saw bodies floating on a bend and alerted the Ramnagar police, who reached the spot and divers were called to the spot. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Kashi zone, Amit Kumar also reached the spot and monitored the search operation. Six decayed bodies and a partially burnt one were brought out and cremated.
Fire in Ghaziabad carton factory, no casualties reported
The intensity of the flames was such that they could not be doused for nearly an hour. As a result, the fire started spreading to other factories nearby. The fire reportedly began from the cartons stored in the factory. Chief Fire Brigade Officer Sunil Singh said 20 fire tenders battled the blaze. The fire spread rapidly as the factory had a large number of chemicals stored.
Now, two dozen bodies found on Ganga banks in UP's Ghazipur
A.K. Pandey, the SHO of Gahmar police station in Ghazipur, told IANS that the bodies were found in a decomposed stage on the bank of the Ganga river. "Preliminary investigation reveals that the dead bodies could be 18 to 20 days old. There were 23 dead bodies recovered from the river and some of the dead bodies were partially cremated and then thrown into the river.
UP govt extends lockdown till May 17
State Additional Chief Secretary, Information, Navneet Sehgal said it would be like a partial corona curfew. During this time all necessary services will continue as before. In view of the fast spreading infections in the villages after the panchayat elections and the festival of Eid on May 14, the Yogi Adityanath government has extended the lockdown for a week, the official said.
UP govt to hold funerals of Covid victims free of cost
Additional Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh has sent a letter to all the municipal corporations and civic bodies directing them to arrange free funerals of deceased Covid patients falling within the limits of the urban bodies. The municipal corporations will bear the expenses of funerals at all crematoriums, cemeteries and cremation grounds falling within the limits of the corporation.
