In the Lakhimpur Kheri by-election held earlier this month, his name was missing from the list of star campaigners. The list also includes names of other family members who are in active politics. Apparently, Akhilesh Yadav wants to leave no stone unturned to ensure the success of his wife Dimple Yadav in the upcoming by-elections, necessitated by the demise of his father and party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav.

The refusal of the court to stay his conviction now means that his disqualification from the state assembly will continue. Azam Khan's counsels pleaded for stay on the grounds that the reasons behind the conviction were not strong enough. The prosecution argued in favour of the conviction.

According to UPCC president Brijlal Khabri, "We do not have time to contest the by-elections. We have urban local bodies elections ahead." The by-election to Mainpuri Lok Sabha and Khatauli Assembly seats is scheduled for December 5. The Mainpuri by-election has been necessitated by the death of Samajwadi Party (SP) patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav on October 10.

The notification for the by election was scheduled to be issued on Thursday. In a release, the CEO said that the notification was being stalled till further orders.

Confirming the development, an official spokesperson said: "Following orders from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the case of anomalies in Ayush colleges admission has been referred to the CBI."

Khatauli MLA Vikram Saini was sentenced to two-year imprisonment by an MP/MLA court on October 11 for his alleged role in 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots. The notification stated that Khatauli assembly seat would be considered vacant with effect from October 11, the day MP/MLA court, Muzaffarnagar, awarded two-year imprisonment to Saini in the case.

The Gola Gokarannath seat had been won by the BJP in 2017 and the seat became vacant following the death of the BJP MLA Arvind Giri in September. Arvind Giri's son Aman Giri has now won the seat. The BJP had campaigned aggressively in this by-election to maintain its winning spree and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had also addressed an election rally here.

BJP's Aman Giri has established a lead of 7,100 votes over his Samajwadi Party rival after the first six rounds of counting. The SP candidate is Vinay Tiwari, a former MLA. The by-elections on this seat were held on November 3 after the sitting BJP MLA Arvind Giri passed away in September.

He was placed under arrest late on Friday night after nine hours of questioning. According to the officials, the probe agency had enough crucial evidence based on which he was placed under arrest.

The officer is now a constable -- the post on which he began his career. According to official sources, DSP Vidya Kishore Sharma, has been demoted after the government took cognisance of a video of him accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh.
