India, UAE to raise non-petroleum trade to $100 bn by 2030, agree to conduct trade in local currency

This was informed by Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal after his meeting with UAE's foreign trade minister Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi. The two countries are also discussing possibilities of conducting bilateral trade in local currencies under the India-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), Goyal informed further.
India-UAE bilateral trade grew 20% in 2022-23

CEPA is a full and deep agreement which was signed on February 18, 2022, during a virtual summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and President of the UAE and the ruler of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The CEPA came into force from May 1, 2022.

According to official data released by Commerce Ministry, India's global non-petroleum exports during the same period (June-August 2022) grew by 3 per cent on an annual basis. This implies the growth rate of India's non-petroleum exports to the UAE is almost 5 times as that of India's non-petroleum exports to the world.

Emirates to reinstate pre-pandemic flight frequency to India

The airline will be operating 170 weekly flights to nine cities in the country, including 35 weekly flights to Mumbai, 28 to New Delhi, 24 to Bengaluru and 21 to Chennai amongst others. "The move comes on the back of the decision by the Indian government to restore international flights to and from the country in line with established bilateral agreements from the end of March 2022," the airline said in a statement.
